Seems like everyone wants puppies. Who can blame the humans, afterall, puppies are really cute. Meanwhile, old dogs get passed up for lots of reasons - won't live much longer, vet bills will mount, and in my case - black fur. Sorry. Can't help that.

So what happens if you're a Genuine Good Dog like me, who loves kids, plays well with other dogs, but who happens to be old, and has black fur, and Fate deems that you will end up in a no-kill shelter for YEARS because nobody wants you?

So this happens...

You meet "that guy" visiting the shelter who takes a chance on you. He takes you home, and in no time, the bond is sealed, and you live a great life, like I did...trips to Lake Mead (FUN), Mount Charleston (not so much fun), so many parks in SoNV that I lost track. Eat great food. Treated like a King. My early years were rough but the last three were Golden. Too bad it was only three years.

Yeah, it sucks. I know my Human Friend regrets not rescuing me sooner, cuz I was there, available, but he was still getting over the loss of his last dog. I understand.

And in my own way, I tried to tell him that it's all good. No regrets, you took a leap of faith and gave me what I wanted - a Forever Home, and all the love I could ever want. So sorry cancer took me down, as it does so many of my kind.

Bottom line: YOU were there for me to the very end. Till my last breath. So remember, no matter how deep my sleep, I will hear you, and not even the power of death can keep me from wagging a grateful tail.

And by the way, thanks so much for the great send-off you gave me! (see pic link below) Not enough room in this broken body to eat all those yummy treats. I do wish you could've given me a sip of that champagne, I hear it's good.

One more thing: I really hope this time, that you will NOT wait so long to get another dog. They're out there, waiting for YOU. Do it soon! And yeah, I know I will be a very hard act to follow.

To other dog-owners, always remember that we love you, in spite of all your faults! Hopefully you will love us back. Because our time is short, and before you know it, we are gone.

Got wings.
Gone straight to Heaven.
Bet he's there right now!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing.   We waited 2 months after Toby passed (Tuffy passed the year before).  Our girls were both around 1.  Next time will likely be seniors, if I'm still around.  I am hoping to be well into being a senior by the time Ellie and Missy pass.

While I wasn't ready to adopt, the first few months I reminded myself that the adoption was in honour of Tuffy and Toby.  They would want us to give a good life to other pups.

What a beautiful way to honor Nike. I know how hard it is to love a senor but of what a gift they give to you. All of their self for ever and ever so grateful. If I am so lucky enough to give what is left of my heart it will go to a senor.  Thank you for sharing Nike with us. What a wonderful dad and I felt the love in every word.
Again thanks for sharing
Love and doggie hugs
