Can anyone please recommend a reputable pet adoption site? I have details but have read not to post adoption requests on here. Possibly someone could direct me to a good site? It is not for my own girls but for a lovable soul that wants to adopt me. But my girls are elderly and have health issues and I cannot stress them now with a young one.

Have you tried contacting any local rescue groups?  Sometimes they will help by placing the dog in a foster home (a volunteer with their group) until a good home is found.  If they aren't able to take the dog or cat, they may at least offer to help find a home if you are able to keep him/her in the meantime.

Please don't use Craiglist or any other type of online posting because it's really not a good way to place an animal.  The rescue groups check vet references of any potential adopters and also do home visits to see where the pet will be living (if they are good, reputable groups).

You can do a search for rescue groups in your area on Petfinder by putting in your zip code.  If you can, ask around at local pet stores to see if they know anything about the group.  Petsmart and other stores allow the groups to bring pets in on the weekend so that is another way to meet and talk to different groups.  Just make sure they are reputable and check out the potential homes.  Also, they should require the new adopter to sign a contract stating they will return the pet to the rescue group if for some reason they are not able to keep him/her.
