Smudge had hyperthyroidism and complications, we had her put to sleep on Aug 21st. She was a kitten at xmas 16 years ago, just after we moved in (with her sister Pip 2001 -2004 heart defect), before we decorated or got new furniture! Two kittens climbing the tree, hanging off curtains, running in and out of the stripped wallpaper!  Pip died suddenly, Smudge was alone for a while, but not lonely, we made sure of it and so did she ... intelligent, communicative, just "all knowing", like a weird angel entity. I miss her terribly. She was everywhere, in everything for me and my husband. She was different with both of us. I could pick her up (no-one else could). He would nap with her because she demanded it, & nod off fiddling with her toes .... You were never lonely with Smudge.
She was my candle in very dark places:
The loss of her sister Pip.
My husband's near death experience. my mothers death, and surrounding fiascoes.
Other horrible life stuff ....
My dad is dying, in the last stages of Alzheimers, he fell in December and has not recovered, not eating, not communicating and on a drip for hydration, it's just a matter of time.

I could really do with a "Smudge cuddle, purr, nuzzle, flop over, I'm here, tummy rub, i love you too face stroke" right now!

Thanks for listening.

I hear you - this was my first Christmas without Squeeker. Like you, I've been going through a lot of stress lately and could really use some quality Squeeker time. But sadly it is not to be for either of us.

I hope you are able to at least smile a bit from your heart as you remember the life the two of you shared. It's all we have at this point, and hopefully it will bring some peace and healing to your heart...

Hugs to you and your family...
