I hope this is OK to post, someone sent this to me and i wanted to pass it on.

A Dog's Plea

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all, the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the thing you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk at your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Thank you for sharing those beautiful and touching words.  They brought tears to my eyes because I think that they truly do reflect the wonderful spirit of our very best friends!  And what a sweetie your girl Patches is!  Such beautiful markings!  I know that she was so very special to you.

Thank you for posting such a true picture of our beautiful relationship we have with our dogs.I just put my beloved 161/2 year old girl to sleep on 419 and this poem really hit me in my feelings and the relationship i had with her. They are such loving animals and the poem says it all.I had guilt about putiing her to sleep because of all her ailments but somehow this poem gave me some relief as i know i did take care of her and loved her so much while we were together and in the end i let her go even though i knew it would bring me some much pain.Thank you so much for posting it.I am so sorry you had to lose your beautful patches especially at such a young age.She was such a pretty one too.Im sure you loved her as i loved my girl.take care or yourself

Thank you from me too for that poem.
While I feel peaceful about our decision to allow Psalty to be relieved from her pain, it's good to read it in this way.
We also are now raising very enjoyably a new puppy and it applies to both sides of our lives right now.
