Some of you know of my cat Bear.  She will be assisted to the bridge tomorrow afternoon.  After some soul searching we have opted for this rather than additional amputations.  She has been diabetic for several years and the disease has taken it's toll.

She is 15 and I will mourn her passing but I cannot do anything but rejoice the life she lived.  She was born in a barn to the family of a veterinary technician, stayed with her biological mother until weaned, then adopted by us.  She never knew a single day without the loving company of humans and other animals.

Before her doctor sends her off I will stroke her long black fur and look into her green eyes and tell her that I love her. I will thank her for helping make this house I live in a home.  Lastly I will tell her that her beloved canine mother Samantha knows she is coming and is waiting for her.  Bear adopted Samantha less than 5 minutes after meeting her and spent her first two weeks here at night in Sams crate sleeping with her.

Although her official name was Bear, she never answered to it.  Some say cats choose their own name.  When she was about 10, one day for some reason I called her Cub.  Her head spun around and looked me right in the eye.  From that day on she has been Cub or Cubby.

Bless you my Cubby, you will never be forgotten.

This is a link to my Samanthas web site.  Cubby is the black domestic long hair in 3 of the pictures, including the very first picture with Sam and me.  The picture of her cuddling with Samantha near the bottom of the page was taken only ten minutes after they met.

Dear Steve,  I am so sorry to hear your "Cubby" is going to the bridge but it is kindness of your heart that allows her to end her pain.  She will be well recieved by all of our previous bridgekids and made to feel right at home.  I'm sure Sam and Miss Dallas will greet her.

We have been on this journey a long time for all of our lost loves and we know the routine but it never gets any easier.  We will all be here for you as she makes her transition.

Bless you and the life of your Miss Bear Cubby.

Love,  Diane

Dear Steve, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as you say your goodbyes to your beloved companion Bear.   The pictures of Bear and Sam together were ever so precious, and it was easy to see what a loving family they were part of.   May it comfort you to know that Bear and Sam will once again be together, sleeping and playing side by side.  Hugs to you,  Love, Jan

Steve,
My heart goes out to you!
"The greatest gift you can give to one you love, is to take away their pain"
I hold on to that.
There is a wonderful prayer in this site, in the Poetry room I think, : "A Parting Prayer"
I somehow managed to read it just before the Vet assisted my Muqua (also "bear"!) in crossing.
I won't take any chances. Here it is;

A Parting Prayer

Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.

Assign her to a place of honor,
for she has been a faithful servant
and has always done her best to please me.

Bless the hands that send her to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing her from pain and suffering.

Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of her life
with the love she has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor her
by sharing those memories with others.

Let her remember me as well
and let her know that I will always love her.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow her to accompany those
who will bring me home.

Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of her companionship
and for the time we've had together.

And thank you, Lord,
for granting me the strength
to give her to you now.

Amen.

It may help.
God Speed Cub!

Steve,

I'm so sorry for the decision you have to make.   It is truly difficult, but it is the final act of love we can do for them, take away the pain.  I loved your tribute page to Samatha, all your furbabies are beautiful.  I can tell that there is great love between all of you.  I pray that love will help you through tomorrow.

You and Cubby will be in my prayers,

Dear Steve,

My thoughts will be with you and Cubby tomorrow.  What a wonderful love story you've told about Cubby and Sam.  How blessed they were to have you and each other in their lives.  I'm sure that Sam will be waiting for Cubby and there will be a joyous reunion.

From Up Above

I am in the memories that dance upon your soul

Bringing back to you the love that came from

up above. A love that has never left you.

Gentle raindrops falling upon your face

bringing healing. My touch reaches out to

you as they gently flow.

I know are times you look for me, in the

places we once walked side by side.

I hear the sighs coming from your heart

when you don't see me. Just because

you don't see me doesn't mean i am

not there. Because there is not a step that

you take that I don't take it with you.

There are times you listen for my voice

in the winds. Listen carefully and you will hear

me whisper, I am in the love that came

from up above. To warm your heart.

Our forms may change, but the love

we share remains. Growing stronger

with each new day. Glowing with the beauty

of a sunrise.

Remember for me that love is given

in a heart beat and is

always.

Dearest Steve,
I am so saddened to hear that your beautiful Bear (Cub) will be going to the Bridge but she will be welcomed with the golden Love from your good girl Samantha who will be waiting for her . They will be together again safe, healthy and watching over you with all the love they have always had and always will have for you. How blessed we are to get to share their wisdom, their loving hearts while they shared our life. I couldnt imagine what life would have been like without our dear sweet Bear, Sam & my Max and I know they are not very far from us and the Love is the connection to the Rainbow Bridge. My heart is with you Steve.
Love,
Jo Max my True Companion

Dearest Stevie,

I am so sorry that you and your beautiful Bear will be parted for a time. This decision we make for our furkids is the pits! You are the best Daddy that Bear and Sam could have hoped for. Even though our minds know the decision is the only right thing to do our hearts cry out "it's so unfair"

Hold fast to the future when there will be a glorious reunion. Until that time Sport will be there for you. I am thinking of you at this most difficult of times, this, your link to Samantha here on this earth.

Love from Priss, PeaceWolf.

Bears passing was peaceful although it took more medication than the doctor expected. To the very end, she was a fighter.  Thanks you's to follow.

Dear Steve, my heart goes out to you at this time.  The loss of one of our fur kids is so the hardest things we go thru, in my opinion, in our lives.  These sweet innocent fur babies come into our lives and all they as for in return is our love and devotion.
Thanks for sharing those lovely pictures of your fur family, it is things like this that will keep our fur babies forever visibly remembered in our thoughts and in our hearts.
You have found the right place here at PL to help you thru this time of grief.
Take care and know that Bear is running free and without any pain and one day we all will be reunited with our fur kids.
Hugs to you and your family.  Sparky's Mom*Anna

Hi Steve,

I am so sorry that you are losing your baby tomorrow. It is the most horrible thing to ever have to go through. As I read your post, I cried as it brought back so many memories of my Nugget. I think you have an amazing and positive outlook on everything. Remember all the beautiful times you spent together and how your Bear made your house a home.

Your Bear will be free to run with all the other furbabies now.

A big cuddle,

Dear Steve

My heart and my prayers are with you and your precious Bear.

I know what a difficult decision this is to make; I had to do the same for my baby boy cat Cheeseburger.

We are all here for you.

Dear Steve,

I'm so sorry about your loss of Bear. I know what wonderful care you took of her and how much you love her. She will be so  happy to find Samantha

waiting for her when she arrives. I feel you did what was right for bear even though it breaks your heart. We just sent Vicki to the Bridge also.

I've heard that a kitten has been seen running with the Goldens. Hmmmmmm  could it be Sammie and Bear?

Love and Blessings,

Carol

Dear Steve,

My friend,  I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your precious Bear. Bless you for helping Bear on the journey.  The decision none of us wants to make but out of love for our critters we do.

I am sure that our Golden girls, Elsa and Samantha were there to greet Bear!  Elsa always liked cats:).

Luv, hugs and healing to you.
