I just had to watch my dog, Candy, be put to rest. She suffered from arthritis and muscular problems, she was going through intense pain, I made sure to make her as comfortable as possible when it happened, and I am just glad I was able to give her such a peaceful death. I was in the room with my father. And my mother waited outside who couldn't bare to see her pass. I had her for my entire life, almost. She was always energetic and fun, up until her last days, a few weeks ago, I could not have foreseen her death. She lived long and happy, at thirteen years.
2007 - 2020.
I painted her, here she is.

Billy, I am so very sorry Candy is gone. I know what it is like to lose a beloved childhood dog. The same happened to me with our dog Lucky. Lucky was part of almost my entire childhood. We got her as a puppy when I was something like 3 or 4 years old. She was with us for at over 12 years before we had her PTS because of cancer tumors that had previously been removed but grew back. So we let her go, just like you did with your beloved Candy. We never had dogs again after Lucky died, so when she left us, it was the end of our life with dogs. We had cats, but we never had another dog again...

The picture you painted of Candy is so gorgeous - I am glad you have it to help you remember Candy for the rest of your life. For me, losing my childhood pets was a defining moment in my life. I kind of divide up my childhood into the pre-pet time before each of my childhood pets came to live with us and post-pet time after they flew on up to heaven ahead of us. It can be such a difficult time, but I hope you know that Candy left surrounded by those she loved and those that loved her. I hope you will eventually be able to think back on the time and life you shared with Candy and smile from deep within your heart...

Hugs to you and your family as you go through this difficult time...

Kelly
