On Monday, we had to put down my beloved cat Carrot at 12 years old, after 5 years of kidney disease. Devastated would be an understatement. I miss him so much. I can't stop crying. We had a very special bond. It's just so hard to see the world keep on turning without him. I miss him with my whole being and I can barely stand this grief. How do I cope? How do I make it through this?

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Carrot. I have lost several cats to kidney disease and understand your pain. As for an answer to your question, how do you cope, I wish I knew. We just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other as we travel the road of sorrow. Do whatever makes you feel better, cry as much as you need to. Between bouts of tears think about all the beautiful years you and Carrot shared, which of course will lead to more tears. Talk to others who understand how special he was and always will be. You can't see Carrot but he is with you, forever in your heart. Talk to him, I find that to be comforting. Make a special little memorial, if you have a green thumb plant a flower or shrub in his honor. All of us on this wonderful website are here to listen. We all know the emptyness you are feeling. In the future I will be needing help too because my precious little 13 year old dog, Piper was diagnosed with kidney disease this past November. I don't know how much longer she will be with me and my tears are plentiful even now. Please take care and come back often. You are among friends who truly understand your pain.
