I read that you shouldn't feed your cat wet food from the fridge - that it should be warmed up first?

Has anyone else heard this - if it is correct I don't understand why...

Thanks

I'm not sure where I heard it...but I remember reading somewhere that they like room temperature and not cold. I used to warm it just slightly in the microwave. It became a habit with me for the last 4 years.

It might actually have something to do with the smell...they'll always run for the food when you just open a can.

Thanks for the info - Abby doesn't seem to mind it cold - I was wondering if there was a medical reason shy they shouldn't eat it cold... can't think of what that would be though.

My kiddens upchuck it when it's cold.  So I warm it ever so slightly in self-defense.  :)

Hello Ladies,

I feed my kitties wet food everyday, and when I have some leftovers from the day before, I always take it out of the fridge and let it get to room temp before feeding it to them. I think some cats prefer the just-opened freshness of the smell and broth. My cats do not like cold wet food. I guess they are like us in many ways. I used to love cold french fries than warm ones. I used to eat cold Pizza Hut pizza and love it more.

Although I have had dogs, I do have experience with using wet food to give meds. My vet told me to always warm up the bit of wet food in the microwave before putting the meds in and giving to Molly. The vet said that the warmed food is gentler on the stomach. I know Molly liked it better warm. Also, I had to get her to drink extra water because of her tendency to form bladder stones. I put about 1t of cold chicken broth in half a cup of water and warmed in the microwave to take off the chill. It was the only way I could get it down her. She was spoiled.
