My sweet wirehaired fox terrier girl,
It was 11 years ago in June that you left us for the Bridge. I knew nothing at that time about the Bridge, or I would have found some comfort in your being there.
The tragedy of that day has dimmed some in my memory, and now I think about the happy memories and your funny, sometimes diabolical, personality. I have some pictures of you that Fodder's took several months before your journey to the Bridge. Of course, you had that purple squeaky dumbell that you adored. We buried that with you. And I have your tennis balls put away that you played "bally-bally" with. Remember how you almost chewed a hole in Marilyn's kitchen wall because you could smell the rabbits living under the porch on the other side? Remember how you tore Marilyn's blouse that time because you didn't like her close to me? Remember the horse trail we were on up at the lake; you found horse poop and it was in your mouth before I could catch what you were up to?! Remember all the camping you did with me at the lake while Fodder's was working? Remember the 3-5 mile-a-day walks we took every morning until the seizures interfered? Remember the day on one of those walks, you heard a Woosh and looked up and saw a hot-air balloon overhead? Remember the airplane trips you took with us in the small aircraft that Fodder's rented and flew? Remember the sailboat we had and the time you decided to follow Fodders off the boat; you fell in the water between the boat and the dock and Fodders jerked you up before the boat could hit you. After that, you wore a doggy lifejacket! Remember how you were always on Mole Patrol in the backyard; you'd go to ground faster than anything I'd ever seen. Today, I would have taken you to Earthdog Trials; you would have enjoyed that. Remember how you'd help me cook, sitting in the corner where I was standing, waiting for bites of all kinds of fruits and vegetables? Remember your Peach Pit experience where you swallowed a peach pit and had a bowel obstruction that required surgery? Boy, I learned from that! Remember how everytime we left the house, we'd turn on the stereo for you and hide biscuit bites? Fodders would take you outside to potty and I'd place small pieces of biscuit around the house. When you came in, we'd tell you to FIND IT, and you'd find every bite. It gave you something to do while we were gone. Remember the No-Ball Peace Prize? You had a way of running the ball up against the piano leg, and then chewing, chewing the leg in the process. We took the tennis ball away from you for several months; when we gave it back, we gave you two and you'd hold one in your mouth and bat one with your feet. You went all over the house with those two balls. We called it your bally-bally game.
Do you remember? Because we do.
Go to Molly's Fine Biscut Shoppe this month and ask her to make you horse-poop flavored biscuits. She'll do that for you, Crickey Sweetheart.
