My baby girl only 6 years old was hit and killed by a car last night. We opened the front door for a split second and she ran into the street and was hit immediately. It’s was horrific, I can’t get the image of my poor baby suffering. We tried in vain to scoop her up and take to the the ER that just no more then 5 min away but we were too late she was already gone. I just can’t believe in a matter is seconds she is gone. I don’t know now what to do with myself. My entire life revolved around her. All I feel is utter gut wrenching pain.

How awful.  I've been reading so many stories lately about dogs being hit by cars.  I can't believe it happened again, to you.  So young, too.  We don't know why our pets take off like that.  You could not have known that would happen.  My dog chases deer and squirrels.  I'm always fearful he will dart out and something bad may happen.

I'm so sorry and sorry you had to witness that. I am always wishing to go back in time, like setting our clocks back a year, not just an hour.  I say a year because my 6 year old do passed 10 months ago.

If you are in the U.S., there are petloss hotlines if you need to talk to someone. Daybyday pet support is 24/7, and LapofLove pet loss is till 9 pm eastern time.

Visiting this forum for comfort is good. We are all here to help each other heal.

Again, I am very sorry.

Thank you @ Parker’s Mom, we found a local grief support group and plan to go this week. I think we are going to need some professional support. It was such a traumatic experience and our grief is so profound. I can get the image out of my head my poor sweet girl.

I am so sorry about what happened to your dog. I'm devastated losing Rhythm, she got hit by a pick up truck 9 days ago. I think I left the gate open, and for some reason I didn't check the gate, I always check the gate before letting them out.Her and my other dog Xena went running around and they went into the street. Rhythm wasn't so lucky, Xena was thank goodness. They stopped and brought Xena back to me and buried Rhythm for me. I am now beside myself and sometimes I don't know how to go on. She was only a year and a half old  and so full of life. Incredibly hard to believe. I think it helps to write about it and to talk to each other for support.
