I've made her as comfortable as possible in her cage for what time she has remaining. She's an old lady now, just over 2 years old. She's technically not even my hamster but I grew fond of her and cared for her as if she were mine. My little sister actually brought her for herself with her birthday money, and she loves her dearly. The whole family does.

My heart is breaking, as I sit next to her cage. I'd like to think she appreciates the company as my sister isn't home from school yet. Her breathing is getting deeper, and her breaths are few and far between, more like convulses now.

It's very upsetting to see her like this and knowing there's nothing I can do, but I don't want to leave her side. I just hope to God that she's not in pain and she passes fairly quickly.

But despite what happens, I know she'll be in a better place soon.

Hello Jake...
Good that you have HEART, to sit beside this wee creature.... God's creature, living and breathing, and deserving of tender loving care till the end. I feel your despair and you are right, she will suffer no more as her spirit rises. Sending my warmest of wishes your way. God's speed.                                                                               Sherry/perryx

Thank you for the kind words.

It breaks me to say that unfortunately she has passed. I just knew that by the end of the day, she would be gone. You just know these things when it comes to the animals you love.

I find comfort in the fact that we gave her a good life, and that she was happy enough to carry on until her old age, and now she is no longer suffering. Unfortunately I wasn't there for her final breath, but I made her as comfortable as possible and I'm glad I was the last person she saw before she passed.

She will be dearly missed by the whole family.
