I picked up Elvis today from the Emergency Vet.  I was surprised at how carefully wrapped his ashes were.  They took great care in packing them for me.  As I unwrapped the plastic wrap from the box, opened it, and looked inside the fabric box...I lost it.  Seeing his remains was a little more than I was prepared for.

Right now my plans are to go back to my childhood home and sprinkle his ashes in my parents back yard where he was the king of his domain for 10 years before becoming an inside kitty.  However I am cherishing his ashes while I still have them in my possession.

This afternoon was hard.  I knew when I saw that I had a voice mail, it was them telling me he was ready.  I am very glad that I had him cremated and don't have to think about him being buried in my back yard.

Dear Christine,
I am so glad your sweet Elvis is back home with you.  You were so brave to peek at his cremains.  I don't have the strength to do that with my precious little girl, Betsy.  She will be buried with me when I pass.  You loved your boy so much.  I know he will just love being scattered over the area he loved to roam.  How wonderful for him!
Stay strong.  I will be thinking of you and wishing you peace.
Hugs,
Melissa

Christine,

I'm very happy you got your Elvis home now.

I know it can be rough to see how "small' our babies can be after being sorrounded by their huge spirits around us everyday. I had a rough time too.

I think it gets better though after the initial shock of seeing our children as "only" ashes.

Hugs,
