Well, I live in a rural area and we have a few barn cats. They are "outside" cats but they have access to the warm barn and they have their own little barn house that is insulated and warm. We just got two little brothers this summer. today something terrible happened. I was backing out of my garage on my way to take my son to a dr appointment and I saw one of the little cats run towards my suburban. They never get too close to the vehicles so I didn't really think anything of it. As soon as i moved forward I felt a little bump. I looked in my rearview mirror and what i was was just terrible and I'll never forget it. I didn't get out of my car I was afraid to hear him bc there was nothing I could do. I called my husband (who is out of town) and he had our neighbor Come over to put him out of his misery. I just feel like I'm heartless and stupid. I know I didn't handle it right and I was too much of a coward to even open my door. I just want to admit to someone what a terrible thing I did and There's nothing I can do to fix it. I just feel sick to my stomach and i wish I could just turn back time a little bit and make sure he was out of the way

I am so sorry for your loss :( It was an accident and nothing you did after it happened would have changed the situation, so please don't be so hard on yourself. Honestly, I can't say that if I was in that same situation that I would have reacted differently. My family used to have a Golden Retriever who had epileptic seizures and whenever he did, I would panic and have to run and go get my mom. Unless we are trained professionals, none of us know how we'd react in traumatic situations. It sounds like you are a very caring and compassionate person to take care of many cats and provide them with an insulated barn house. RIP to your baby and know that he forgives you, so please try to forgive yourself.
