I can hardly type this, but I need help understanding why I allowed things to happen the way they did.

My beloved cat, my soulmate and one of the loves of my life, passed away on August 3rd, three days before I was supposed to return home from France (where my fiancé lives).

I've been nurturing this long-distance relationship for over three years, and it killed my every time I had to leave my cat (I always had pet-sitters, but this time he stayed with my mom at her house while I was gone for 2 months).

The fact that he left, and that he died before I could be back with him kills me. The fact that I allowed him to pass without me being by his side. I regret that I didn't do something different.

Some people would say (and I try to tell myself), that it was easier for us both this way, but then it comes up again and I'm overcome with guilt of having left my baby off-and-on for the last 3 years of his life (he was 18).

Hi Sirona

I’m so very sorry that you’ve lost your beloved Cat.

Honey, you didn’t allow this to happen, it just did. If you had known you’d have been there. You made sure your loved one was cared for while you were away. Sometimes our pets go when they go regardless of if we are there or not.

There was nothing you should’ve done differently. You loved your cat for 18 years, and he knew that. It was his time to go, he couldn’t control it and neither could you. I am so sorry that you coulnt have been with him.

Big hugs to you. Xx
