I was training my puppy to use the restroom outside and I will take him to the back yard and he’d do his business then come back in. We have a pool in the backyard but he would never get close to I.T and he was afraid so I thought nothing of I.T. I went back inside to put a load in the washer and when I went back to check on him I couldn’t find him and he was in the pool and I dove to take him out and I got him and I didn’t know what to do I called 911, I tired giving him cpr, and I took him to the fire fighters they gave him oxygen and cpr but I.T didn’t work. I.T was too late and I.T was all my fault. I killed him and I.T was fault and I couldn’t save him and I feel so terrible.

I’m so, so sorry for your loss. You aren’t the first to make a mistake with consequences you would give anything to reverse. You would never have put him at risk on purpose. Your baby forgives you, I just hope you can spare a little bit of your compassion for yourself. By sharing here, you may stop someone else (or a hundred someone elses) from underestimating just how fast our little creatures can be, and how you can’t rely on “never” or “always” with curious little animals. For example, some people think their dog would never run into the street when they are out in an unfenced yard, with or without their person, but if a cat or squirrel streaks by, you might be horrified to find out that once in a blue moon, they actually would take off into the street.

You clearly love animals, and each is an individual — having others doesn’t make the loss of your baby not hurt horribly. I’m thinking about you, and hoping you find some peace soon.
