Good Morning Pet loss friends:

I’d like to introduce the newest member of our family – Kona. Pictures are attached. She doesn’t stay still for more than a second, so taking these pictures was a task in itself. We weren’t exactly looking for a dog “yet”, but as fate should have it, she found us. Here’s a short version of the story:

Yesterday morning 7-6-08, I took my mom to the Palms Casino to get her out of the house and have some fun. My son Jacob went to Kids Quest to play, and my husband got some work done at home. My mom and I sat down at a Paigow table, and I started talking to a guy at the table about dogs. I told him about Gypsy and Luna and how we were looking to adopt a dog soon. The dealer kept looking at me, and finally spoke up, asking me what kind of dog I was looking for. I told her a young female lab mix – we’d probably adopt from the SPCA in the fall. She smiled and said she was looking for a home for her 9 month old lab mix female, named Puanani (Hawaiian for Beautiful flower). They called her “Pua.” She and her husband were moving BACK to Hawaii in a few weeks and they needed a home for Pua, or they’d take her to the pound. Well you know me! I immediately called Tim and asked him if he believed in fate. I told him the story, and about 4 hours later we were at their house meeting Pua for the first time. She’s an absolute DOLL, and she has the most beautiful coat we’ve ever seen on a dog. We instantly fell in love with her and we knew her owners really liked us too. They had her on Craig’s list for a week or two, but nobody wanted her because she’s young and needs a LOT of training. Well you all know we always train our dogs, so that was not an issue at all for us. Jacob loves her and she LOVES Jacob. Now if we could just get her to EAT!!!

Pua is a strange name, so we knew we had to change it. She is a very very dark brown/black color with a white patch on her chest. She acts like she’s jacked up on coffee, so we kept the Hawaiian theme and re-named her KONA. Now the fun begins – training. She slept on our bed with us last night – it was that or no sleep at all. We’ll see if that continues.

I'm very nervous to bring a new dog into my life, as I know my heart will one day break again. But I know I have a lot of love in my heart to give, and this beautiful girl is very worthy of that love. I pray it works out.

Welcome Kona!! J

Whenever a dog in my family dies my parents say "No more dogs" When my dog died yesterday they said it again and I said " I would rather have them and lose them then to never have had them at all". All the joy they give you over the years is worth it. Congrats on the new dog

Kona is beautiful! It is so wonderful that you gave her a home. With all the love you and your family have to give, she will be a great dog.

I loved reading the story of how you got her, and thank you so much for sharing her picture. She has a very sweet face and looks so happy and energetic.

I hope someday I will be able to have another special angel in my life.

Bless you Kona - you are a gorgeous girl.

Aww, what a sweetheart!.  I truly believe that when the time is right, things fall into place and we are adopted by a new furbaby.  Even though we will never forget our precious babies who have left us,  we just have too much love in our hearts not to share with a new furbaby who needs us.

Welcome Kuna!

Thank you all for the warm welcome of Kona.  She is an absolute DOLL, but boy does she need training!!!  She has already destroyed 6 of my sons toys and 3 of his socks.  She has abandonment issues, and likes to jump up.  So training her is going to be a challenge, but she's well worth it.  Just wanted to say thank you.

On another note, I cried my eyes out last night thinking about my girls.  It's so weird.  Those tears come from nowhere sometimes.  I miss them so much.

God Bless,
Gerlie (Gypsy and Luna's forever mom)

It's okay. Let yourself cry whenever you want. There's gonna be times like that when they come from out of the blue and you cry buckets.

When I was ready for the vet to come back into the room and have Blue PTS, I opened the door and one of the techs was walking by. She didn't know what was happening but her eyes filled & she had to walk away when I told her what was happening. They all loved Blue and Riefer and were just as heartbroken as I was. As I was leaving, she told me, (as her eyes filled again), you just cry whenever you want to cry and don't let anyone tell you different.

We're here with the tissues.

When I first looked at her picture, I swore I heard her say "What can I do to cut up next?" You can see it in her eyes. Then, I read your post and laughed. Kona is a great name, too.
