Hello All. I made the decision along with my vet to put my 18 year old female orange tabby named Cinnamon to sleep last Monday, 8/10/2020. She had multiple health conditions including diabetes for 8 years and hyperthyroid and IBD for 4 years. We were able to manage her conditions with 2 hours of meds and subq fluids daily for years. Last weekend she started to have pain squatting in the litter box and had started to lose quite a bit of muscle mass on her hind legs. She also began hiding under my bed and in the closet. She also started having trouble walking and was circling around the coffee table disoriented and then going behind the air conditioner and staring at the wall. She was also restless in her bed and couldn’t find a comfortable place to rest. She also started licking her side excessively and her coat was wet to the touch. I took her into my vet and she told me that she was in the 75% of pets that she saw that were ready to pass. I was in such fear of her continuing to be in pain with little quality of life that we decided to let her go. She was still sniffing catnip on her blanket before she passed and head butted me 3 times and bit my nose before she laid down. It haunts me whether this meant she was ready to go or if this meant that she wasn’t ready. I am suffering deeply and not sure of how I can get past this to acceptance. I cannot sleep well feel and feel like I should have brought her home and medicated her more to see if she would rally. The other side of me says I would have prolonged her suffering for me. Help!!!
