i lost my macgyver tonight.  he was diagnosed with melanoma a year ago last feb, we went through the vaccine series, he was doing well.  last week he had his semi-annual check up and we found that the cancer had spread to his lungs.  he was given a month.  he never acted sick until this afternoon when he suddenly started acting punky and spiked a fever of 106.  6 hours later, he was gone.

this forum was a life-saver for me 3 1/2 years ago when i lost my sarabi.  i had hoped not to have to write another post like this for a little while longer.  but my heart is again broken, and i wonder why i keep doing this.  then i remember all the love i had for the past 10 years and i know.

i will post more about mac soon, but for now, i wanted to leave a picture of my buddy, my beautiful, goofy, loveable bear of a dog.

Dear Jen I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Macgyver. He is sure a handsome boy. I love the picture with the sunglasses! It sounds like he didn't suffer long and for that you must be thankful. No one wants to see their  darling babies hurting. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you peace and comfort. Donna, Mr. Meowgy's mom

I am so very sorry for your loss. he is one handsome guy! and goofy in a good way!

please accept my condolences, I lost my bichon Oscar ( age 13) to cancer last year. by the time the vets discovered it ( it was in his nose) it was too late, he too was gone within a month.

Cherish all the wonderful memories you have of your Mac- if he is as goofy and loveable as you say, there must be lots. he looks like a fun guy. he will always be with you, in a special place in your heart reserved just for him

Sorry for your loss of Macgyver. He looks like a real loveable guy.
It's really a difficult time, I'm sure. When you adopt them and take them in, I know, everything is good and happy, but when illness strikes and/or they pass away, it takes such a toll on the owner. It's a big loss for you.Take care.

donna, oscarsmom, and nancee-

thank you guys for your kind words.  i know that as bad as the pain is right now, that the time that i had with mac was worth it.  but it's hard to remember that right now, when my heart is breaking.

i agree that it is a blessing that he never suffered.  he was always such a happy dog.  all he wanted out of life was to be with me.  i can't imagine that i will ever be able to find that kind of devotion again.

i picked mac's ashes up tonight--i just can't wrap my mind around the fact that such a big boy, with such a huge personality, could fit in such a little box.  there is just something wrong about that.  but at least he's back here, with me.

Dear Jen

I am so sorry.  It hurts so much to lose our beloved babies.  Even though the loss is painful, it is all worth it when we think back and remember the love and happiness they brought us.  I know I wouldn't have traded a second of the time I had with my Gus.

Your Macgyver is adorable!.  He looks like such a big cuddly bear.  I can tell he was a special boy.

Hugs and prayers
Kate (Gus' mom)

Dear Jen,

What an absolutely fabulous furchild. I'm so sorry you lost your Macgyver. He felt so safe in your love that he could quietly leave. I look forward to hearing stories about him. From the photos it looks like he has an amazing personality.

You're so right Jen...the joy of them outweighs the pain we experience at the end. It would be a sad and lonely place not to have shared part of the journey.

Sending big hugs,

Donna

Dear Jen,

I'm sorry I missed your post for Macgyver (great name, brings back memories of the tv show, which my family loved).  His photos are wonderful, you can see what a happy, loving bear he is.

I remember when you arrived here after losing Sarabi - you were in terrible pain but you consoled and helped so many others, both in the chat room and on the message boards.  Your babies are surely proud of their mom.

Please accept my condolences for your loss - may Macgyver's love fill your heart and your memories soothe your soul -

Barb

I am so sorry Jen.  Saying that, I am so glad that you are thankful of the time that you had together.  We all know, that however much time we have with our babies, it is never enough, we will miss them always.  Much Love, Di xxx
