I am absolutely devastated. I got up early this morning to take my father for his chemotherapy, Maisie , my beautiful 19 year old cat usually sleeps on her own sofa indoors. I had been to my car and put things in the boot 3 times , sat in my car , started the engine and put in the post code. I slowly reversed and felt something !! I had ran over my Maisie ...., I was screaming and crying for someone to help her but knew in my heart it was too late ,, I will never forgive myself .. why didn’t she move ?, why didn’t I see her ? Did she suffer ?

I am going to hazard a guess here - you said she usually sleeps on her own sofa indoors. You had been in and out, started the car then sat and entered the postal code, yet she didn't move away. Is it possible (given her age) she felt unwell and went out to rest there and did not move because she had already passed? It still is heartbreaking I know, but I feel certain Maisie knows how much you love her and she knows you would never knowingly harm her. Allow yourself to grieve , but do not add guilt to that - Maisie would not wish that for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately in our life accidents happen, you did not do this on purpose it was a terrible accident. Forgive yourself and grieve for your Maisie. Please do not feel guilty, it was just an unfortunate accident. I so very sorry. I hope you find peace and comfort and a sign from your baby that they are alright. Take care.
