I had to put my beloved Doberman to sleep Monday. He was 7 years old and was becoming more aggressive. He had bitten some people, and I have two small children that I simply could not trust with him. I loved him so much. I tried to find another home for him, but I couldn't feel comfortable with him with anyone else, and no one wanted a 7 year old Doberman with aggressive tendencies. He was so full of life, and I feel so guilty, but I didn't know what else to do. He was my buddy, my jogging partner, and fiercely loyal to me. I've always thought that I was fairly stoic with my emotions, but there I sat in the vet's office, holding my dog, and tears rolling off my face. I'm just sad.

I am so very sorry that you had to make this awful decision. It's hard no matter the circumstances regarding letting our babies go. Who knows what demons lurked in his mind. Dogs are just like humans and have emotional issues. I know how much you loved him, it shows in your every word. As long as you exhausted every avenue to get him help or relieve him of his pain, you did the right thing. I'm not sure if I could have been as brave as you. Being loved by them and loving them is a gift. It sounds as if you made a memorable journey with him and again I am so sorry..
Your sadness is normal and one day you will look back and smile, this I promise you.
