Early this evening we helped Mugzy, our Boxer, to the Rainbow Bridge.  He was between 10 and 12 years old -- we're not sure of his age, he was a rescue dog.  We'd been stalling making a decision, but this afternoon I realized it was a sacred duty to help him find his way to the Bridge and out of the suffering and confusion that plagued his recent weeks.  He most likely had a brain tumor, and he'd lost almost all of his sweet, delightful personality to old age and illness.  His passing was very quick and peaceful, and certainly, the compassionate thing to do.  I've lost pets in the past, but this is different, for Mugzy was the dog of my lifetime, my heart connection.  I was very blessed the day he was sent into my life, and I have no doubt I will see him again on the other side.  But for now, the sorrow and emptiness are overwhelming.

Dear Valentina,

I am so sorry you are hurting.  I hurt as well.  That's what love does - and it's worth it, this pain I would not trade if it meant I could not have loved my Freckles.  Mugzy thanks you for this beautiful selfless act.

                         You are in my prayers,

Dear Valentina:

I am so very sorry for your loss of Mugzy. I feel we are very lucky to have been brought together to share that very special love and bond with our pets. I know that your pain and emptiness is very deep. Your overwhelming feelings of sadness only come because of your deep and everlasting love for Mugzy.

I know that Mugzy is out of pain and happy with his new friends at the Bridge.

Many prayers for you and Mugzy.

Mary
Meisters Mom.

Thank you so much for your kind and supportive words.  You are so very correct, love breaks our hearts, but every time it breaks them open wider so we can let more people and creatures into them, and love more deeply.  Our pets leave a profound legacy when they leave us grieving, for it can make us better and more caring people.
