My trusty companion for 18 years was put down today about 2 1/2 hours ago. I have her wrapped in a towel in a box with her sardine toy, some flowers, and a card sitting at the end of my bed where she'd spent most of her time  over the past 4-5 months. I am afraid I'm going to lose my mind. I'm numb, then I wail, then I'm numb. Today we took her to the vet to get some more medication, and they said her lungs were filled with fluid and if we took her home, she's drown. Within 15 minutes, she was gone. It wasn't a peaceful death, either - my poor sweet beautiful baby died today. I don't feel like dying, but I do, but I won't.

I'm so extremely sorry to hear that you lost your best friend today.  It is truly the WORST feeling in the world.  We all understand wholeheartedly the feelings of absolute terror, pain, panic and despair.  I know there is nothing that can be said that can make those feelings go away.. just know that you are not alone.  I have not shared my own story yet but I will. Hang in there as best you can.  Keep reaching out- people are listening and care..  Only time can lessen some of the pain.. and it will take time.  18 years is a very long time.. clearly your cat left this world knowing how much she was loved and cherished and that is the greatest gift you could have ever given her.  Sending you love, hugs, and peace during this terrible time

Tiger,

I’m so sorry for your loss and the pain you’re dealing with right now. Your story especially breaks my heart because I also lost my 18 year old cat a few months ago. It’s never enough time no matter how long we’re lucky enough to have them in our lives. I know that initially the pain can be almost unbearable, but please know that over time it will slowly ease. It’s completely normal to feel like you’re losing your mind so hopefully you can take some measure of comfort knowing that many of us have felt exactly the same way & have gotten through it intact. You’ll get through this. You’re not alone & please feel free to message me if you need to talk. I know how much you’re hurting right now & you’re in my thoughts, xx

With love,
Elle
