We had our french bulldog Boo for 10 years. The past few days he wasn’t eating, we took him to the vet and they suspected pneumonia which the chest X-ray and his blood work came back after the fact was all positive. My friends sister who is a vet said he must’ve had vestibular issues. My dog never barks and he was having these yelping/howling episodes where he was in pain and would run away from us almost as if he didn’t want us to comfort him. In the past week he’s been peeing himself (his bed, the floor) places he never had an accident. We thought it was the pain killers we gave him for his bad back. He had his 3rd yelping in pain episode of the day and kept running to the door. Ever since Boo was a baby he never left our sides, we would never use a leash for him bc whenever we took him for walks, or took him out to pee he would stay by our sides. That night he didn’t. He took off running for the woods, looked back at us and kept running we ran back in to get a flashlight and by the time we went back to the area where he went in, we didn’t hear his yelping anymore, the familiar jingle of his collar or the leaves crunching. We couldn’t find him at all. This doesn’t make any sense to me because he never ran off like that from us and never came back. It’s been 2 days and I can’t wrap my head around it because I can’t get closure. We looked all night and all day the following day, contacted several missing dog organizations, the local animal shelter and police departments in the surrounding towns. We can’t understand why he would book it to the woods, and not come back or come out when he heard our voices. We are so heartbroken over this. We don’t know what to do.

I'm so sorry you must be beside yourselves with worry.  Sounds like he was very stressed and confused from his illness.  You are doing everything possible to bring him home.  The only other thing I can think of is maybe putting some pictures up in areas that a lot of people go to (grocery store, etc) with your phone number.  I hope you find Boo and that he is ok.

He had a 104 temp, he was passing back and forth and was scared to come over to us and he is usually stuck to us like glue. We put up flyers, been searching our woods the past 3 days, brought a canine in to search for him and to put food out just Incase. I’m hoping if he did run away to go die in peace, it wasn’t peaceful and quick. Thank u for ur kind words it means a lot.

I'm so sorry, poor Boo his high temp probably had him out of his mind.  He wouldn't have run away from his loving family otherwise. It is obvious that he was loved and treasured, you did everything you could to find him.  I'm so sorry for all of you.  My thoughts are with you guys.

I'm glad that my words helped some, it must be so hard to not know where he is or what's happened.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  I hope you are able to have closure.

I am so sorry to hear that Boo is missing. I hope he's okay and you find him very soon.  A fever can render someone confused. I agree with KatKat the high temp may be contributing to this.  I found an article that may have some extra ideas for your search of Boo.  Don't give up hope!   I wish I could help you find him, unless you are in northeast PA.

Keeping your family and Boo in my thoughts for you to be reunited with him.

Thank u so much!! I did all those things listed and it’s been 6 days since. I feel so bad. We tried everything, we let the local animal shelters know, same with the vets, surrounding neighborhoods and put up flyers and left out food each night for him. We just exhausted all options. Thank u so much for kind thoughts and prayers. We really appreciate it!

No sign of Boo yet.  Miracles do happen. I've read stories that pets have shown up out of nowhere or miles away and were identified.  Keep hoping.  I'm sorry about all of this.
