He was 5 years and 6 months old. I just got home from work and decided to check his cage but I didn't seem him at first which was odd since he always greets me when I walk by the cage. It's nighttime and dark so I grabbed a flashlight to look and I found him tucked away in a corner with his eyes still open laying motionless. I am absolutely devestated I already had a rough day and just wanted to sit down with him but now I can't. He was not ill or anything he was acting a bit more calm the last few days but I didn't think much of it. Right now it's 2 am and I don't have anyone to talk to and it's just such a shock I just feel confused and am crying. All I can think of was what a nice bunny he was, he never bit me or acted aggressive he was just always so kind. I'm trying to type more but it's hard and I'm just feeling so confused. I am probably not making much sense but I just needed to type this I'm sorry if it's incoherent. I just wish I could've given him one more day and petted him one more time.

I am so sorry for your sudden loss. You must still be in shock. He sounds so sweet. What was his name? Bunnies can succumb so quickly, sometimes it is impossible to know if something is wrong. When you lose a pet so suddenly and unexpectantly, it is hard to comprehend what has happened and why and it is confusing. I hope your heart will soon begin to heal.

It's not incoherent....you just lost a good friend.  Of course you are feeling terrible.  I am so sorry that this happened to you.  I don't know much about bunnies but animals tend to hide sickness so maybe he was sick and wasn't showing any outward signs?
Come here as often as you need to type your feelings out. We understand the pain and the grief that you are feeling now.

Thank you both for your comments and thoughts. His name was Spiffy, I named him that because he had the cutest little hairdo with a funky tuft. He would always give you this oddball look with his eyes slightly wandered it always made me laugh. I buried him today in my front yard, picking his body up from his cage was so weird he felt so light and it was just eery. I'm still feeling sad but doing better, knowing he's had a proper burial helped in saying goodbye to him I think. I'll care for him always he was just the most precious little bunny.

I am very sorry to read about the sudden loss of your precious bunny!  Bunnies can get sick so quickly and be gone in a matter of hours.  They are such fragile animals, but sooo sweet and precious.  My little bunny boy, Christoph, passed 2 years ago and I miss him so much. Bunnies are so cute and bring so much joy into our lives.  I would love to know more about your bunny and hope you will post a picture or two and share some stories when you're feeling better.

I love your bunny!  He's so sweet looking. I had a little dwarf bunny named Fou Fou ten years ago. When he passed we were devastated.  Many people don't know what cuddly, clean little pets they are.  He looks very happy and content in this picture, sitting in the sunshine.  I hope your grief lifts soon and you can remember only how happy he was and what a great life you gave him.

Thank you all again for your touching words. Christoph looks absolutely adorable Mare I'm sorry for your loss. Here are some pictures from spiffy

the first one is from he was just born and he was snuggling with one of his little brothers (almost 5 years ago). The second is taken last week 3 days before he died. You can see his goofy look i was talking about. God I am crying again just looking at it it's so sad. I wish I would have given him more attention sometimes and spend more time with him I tried every day but sometimes I was busy and had to let him in his cage I feel so bad for him now. He was never big on playing with toys but when I took him from his cage he would always sit beside me on the ground when I was reading or studying and he would just cuddle up to me. We had this big old phonebook and he loved ripping the pages out of it and just digging around (he often gave me this proud look afterwards as if he accomplished something very grand after tearing up a page or two). I'm so sad we didn't have more time together I'll love him always.

Spiffy is totally adorable!  I had to chuckle when I read that your boy also liked the phone book!  Christoph would go crazy flipping the pages! My daughter captured his antics on the video cam...so sweet!  Bunnies are just the most precious animals.  I miss my boy every day.  Thanks for sharing the pictures!!

Oh,  I'm sorry I mistook that the pic of Mare's bunny was yours.  I need to pay more attention. Your little one is adorable and yes his goofy little look is so endearing. Mine also loved ripping pages out of books. We all look back and think that we didn't give enough attention as we should have.  But in reality, I'm sure we spoiled them as much and more than they needed to be.  I felt very guilty when my little pup passed, because he was young I almost always let his elderly brother sit in the front seat of the car, and little Captain had to settle for the back.  We couldn't have known that their time would be so short.  Your little one loved his life, thanks to you.
