                                   My First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven's star, reflecting on the snow.

The sight is spectacular, please wipe away the tear.
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas Choir up here.

I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart

So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear
And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory of my undying love.

After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.

Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do,
For I can't count the blessings of love he has for each of you.

So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear,
Remember I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Thank you so much for posting this.  Although Dallas has been at the bridge for 8 years, Scruffy for 6 and Gimli for 3, time has no meaning there. They are with their Creator who loves them.  They are young and strong again and although we miss them still, they are with God.  I remember how tough my first Christmas was without Scruffy, she died Christmas eve '04 and Gimli Christmas eve '07.  It is a sacred night and we have our own candle ceremony on our porch.  I pray they see me from heaven.

My heart goes out to those who are having their first Christmas without their babies.  God bless you all, you are in my prayers.

Thank you Diane for such a beautiful post!  I almost didn't read it because just the thought of spending Christmas this year without my Mocha and Lucy made me cry.  I'm so glad I read it though.  Last year we were a family of four - just me, my husband, and our two furbabies spending Christmas together.  I miss them so much and have been so sad for the last few weeks realizing that they won't be with us physically for the holidays.  This poem reminds me that they are still with us - even better, they are with Jesus too.

Thank you.  This hits home in different ways actually.  Its my first Christmas without my dog Tres, who came to us only two days before Christmas 1996.  Its also the first Christmas of my entire life without a dog in my home - that's very strange.  And, a friend of ours - a man known for his passionate worship of Jesus - passed away about three weeks ago.  All of these things have made things difficult sometimes.  I needed this reminder of where and with whom they get to spend their first Christmas - as was already said, what an honor.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem.  This will be my third Christmas without my bunny boy.  I long to see him and Jesus.  It is so natural to miss your babies during the holiday season.  They brought joy to our hearts all year long.

Thank you for a beautiful post.  That poem can apply both for our furbabies and for our human loved ones we have lost.  This will be our 3rd Christmas without Patti

Thank you.  It will be my first Christmas without my sweet Molly.  I am just sure my dad is slipping her Xmas cookies under the table and that he will make sure she gets the best bits of turkey and all the stuffing she wants!

Dear Deb, I am so glad you enjoyed this.  I got it from a friend in Chicago.  His girlfriend of many years(my friend too) had passed away and he sent it to me her first Christmas in heaven.  I thought it was approproate for here for the furkids as well.  I can just see all of our babies there.

Dear Beverly,  I know someone in Salem --Glenna Hart.  I know it must have been so hard to loose 2 on Christmas eve.  I lost my Keeshond on Christmas day 2003 the year after loosing Dallas.  I know how hard it is.

I hope you have a nice Holiday season.

Love, Diane

Diane,

Just want to tell you how precious seeing the Christmas poem is and has always been for me.  Many years ago my grandmother passed away in November.  Someone sent me this poem that first Christmas without her and I cried buckets over it.

I was laying on my sofa that Christmas morning, feeling totally lost and definitely not in a Christmas spirit.  The doorbell rang and when my daughter went to the door there stood a couple with a little stray dog.  She had come to their house and they were unable to keep her.  A neighbor had told them that I fostered dogs.  They offered to put an ad in the paper and pay for her food if I would take her.  Several days later I placed her in a wonderful forever home.

I have always felt that my grandmother had a hand in sending this little dog to me.  She always knew when my heart was hurting and how much I love all of God's beloved furry ones.  No one can be too far "down in the dumps" when needed by a little one.  I will always remember that Christmas and that indeed, my grandmother was spending Christmas with Jesus and smiling down upon my daughter and I.

Thank you so much for posting this.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.

Diane, we need to keep this thread at the top so all of those who have to have a "first bridge Christmas" will have a place.  I loved the poem.  Salem is not a big town, I hope to meet your friend one day.

Dear Mare,  How can it be 3 Christmases without your Christoph?  I can hardly believe it.

I want to thank you so much for being such a support here at petloss.  I know how much time it can take, but I also know how healing it was for me to respond for the first 5 or so years.  It helped me for sure and I hope the ones I responded to.  You are such a wonderful person.

Have a blessed holiday season, my friend.

Love,  Diane

Oh my goodness, Patti has been gone 3 years as well as Christoph?  How can it be that time flies so fast.  Thank you Karen for being here for all and I know what you mean about the poem being for anyone's loss whether human or furry.

Have a wonderful holiday.

Love,  Diane

(((((diane))))) thank you for posting this.  We all remember our first Christmas without one of our beloved fur children. Although it was 7 years ago, I remember finding Samanthas Christmas stocking just before the holidays and I think the number of tears I cried that day couldn't have been counted.  But as the poem says, my Sam, your Dallas, and all our beloved furchildren are in the hands of Christ, the only hands as loving as ours. Merry Christmas to you my dear dear friend.

Thanks Diane, I needed that. Its been over 4 months now and this week has been tuff, cried a lot going to work thinking about April's last days. My new pup Missy is a handful but I love her a ton. She is filling that "spot" inside thats been torn out.

I pray that all of us find some peace this X-mas without our little ones.

Blessings,

Bob

I've read this beautiful poem several times and cried each time.  Thank you, Diane, for posting it.

With Christmas fast approaching, I'd like to bump this forward again.  I think it will give much comfort to new people coming here.

Diane,

things have changed so much since you posted that 9 years ago.  Dallas has been gone 17 years and Scruffy 15 years.  Since then, I have loved and lost 4 more babies.

Gimli, 2007
Frodo 2016
Pippin2017
Sam   2019

I loved them all with all of my heart and soul.  May God bless all of you who are grieving a loss this year.  Petloss gave me love and support in my darkest times.  Be kind to yourself.

We are the keepers of the flames.
