It has been a little over 24 hours since I said goodbye to Bill, my friend and companion of nearly twelve years.  As I write this I realize that I don't have words in my vocabulary to describe the pain and loneliness of losing my buddy...I feel as if my world is over.

You know, I'd hoped to say more, but right now I just can't.  All I have is tears and pain.  Thanks to anyone who listens.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are right, there are no words to describe the pain and loneliness we feel when we lose our beloved pets. You are not alone here. Let the tears flow and allow yourself to grieve. Grieving is hard work. Try to rest when you can and drink plenty of water. When you can, I hope you will tell us more about Bill.

Hello Edgar,

I understand about not finding the words. I am feeling the same way and it has been over two weeks since I lost my cats to a terrible virus. Even though you can not say much right now, it is good that you reached out to others.

I'll say to you what I have been telling myself: It feels as though our lives are over, but it is not the end. We must go on and live full lives until that day when we are reunited with our beloved animal friends.

Give yourself a break. Just take one day at a time. Tell us about Bill when you are ready. I am sure that you were great with him and that he could find no complaint while being under your care.

Dear Edgar,

I understand.  When you first lose a beloved pet, it's hard to put into words how you are feeling.  I am very sorry Bill has passed on.  Our world changes forever when our babies leave us.  Life is stark and joyless for quite awhile.  Coming here and talking to others about your pet will help you so much.  Your petloss family is always here for you.

Hi Edgar
I hear you.  I felt like it was all over too. The happy little world I had with my little guy.  Somehow I've been able to come out of the other side of grief and emerge with a little less pain and guilt.  It's a tough road but you can walk it with a little help from friends and family.

Thank you all so much for your kind words...your understanding.  Honoring Bill's last request to give him a peaceful death was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  Still, somehow, knowing that his beautiful spirit is no longer held down by the ailing anchor that was his body gives me a bit of peace.  That and the understanding that his death has no power to diminish the love we have are about the only things that keep me going right now.  At least now he can run, jump and howl to his hearts content...I can see it...I can feel it.  I love him so very much...

Yup, you got that right..there are no words.  Just know that there are a lot of people here who understand exactly how you feel without even having to say a word.
I am sorry for the loss of your bud Bill.
