My family and I left for vacation this previous Sunday. We have a 16 year old dog Shawn and a 5 year old cat Claude. We were worried about leaving Shawn the dog due to his age and stress from when we leave. But we never ever would’ve guessed it would’ve been our cat Claude who would be the one we had to worry about. Monday night she chewed open a bottle of Tide. My niece noticed Tuesday when she got there and called several vets. They all said to wash her which they did and then they brought her to a vet the next day after she wasn’t moving around much. The animal poison control center and vet both assured us that she would be fine and acted like it wasn’t a big concern. The vet gave her medication to eat in her food and said see how she’s doing 48 hours later. Thursday, she still hadnt eaten, used her litter box, or barely moved. So we rushed home from vacation and took her to an emergency vet (different than previous vet). We came home to find her hanging onto a thread of life. The vet informed us she has severe burns on her skin, internally, and in her mouth (which is why she couldn’t eat), body temperature 9 degrees too low, all her levels so low theyre off the charts. Her kidneys are failing. Just problems left and right. Tomorrow morning we are going into see her and as she has not improved and is suffering at this point, it seems that we will have to put her to sleep. My heart is shattered, I don’t want to do anything but lay down bawling my eyes out. She’s so young and had so much life left. Our cats have always loved 20+ years. Everything in this house reminds me of her and it feels so empty. I just don’t know how I’m going to get past this. It’s so unfair. She was the perfect cat, she has such an awesome personality and loves us so much. I’m in total disbelief that life can be this unfair. Total freak accident, not a common thing at all and I just can’t believe this and don’t know how to proceed without her.

I am so sorry - what an upsetting time for your family. It is frustrating to only be able to write comforting words -- I read these stories and just want to give a big ole comforting hug. I hope you can feel my hug.
