I lost Tito on Tuesday night, early Wednesday. He was killed in the woods. He was my last cat/fur baby.

Coming back to an empty house after 19 years is too much. I went to the animal shelter and saw an ailing, 15 year old, black cat. He needs arthritis medication and a quiet home. I couldn't bond with him right now, but he is an "old man" according to the shelter staff. He will hiss at you if he gets annoyed, and want to be alone. They said he only wants a quiet place to sleep.

The irony is that I adopted Tito 3 months after Boo Boo's death, in 2006. I did it to help my other two cats who were so depressed, especially Boo Boo's sister Sabrina. She was devastated. It took her two years to warm up to Tito. My other cat, Trouble, took to Tito right away, which was his personality. Of course it didn't fill the void, and I didn't bond with Tito, due to grief, for a long time. It affected our relationship for quite a while.

We lost Trouble four years ago in August. Sabrina became closer to Tito. Tito and I lost Sabrina this past November. Tito was so depressed, and the only cat left. I tried to adopt an older cat for him, but after two months, it was clear Tito was not warming up to him. Fortunately, the other cat...and awesome personality like my buddy Trouble, got a home with two wonderful people who love him to pieces. He has a dog as a companion, and they have bonded well. I think he had been with a dog before the shelter took him in. Monday is the 12th anniversary of Boo Boo's death. The irony doesn't escape me. Now I am thinking of making the same mistake again. Is it too soon ? I know I am grieving and still grieving Sabrina, my girl of over 18 years.

Hi again Melissa

Only you know when the right time is to open your heart to another fur baby. There are so many fur babies out there that would be lucky to be with you.

Tito obviously didn’t want to share you with anyone after losing Trouble and Sabrina.

A new baby won’t replace any of the ones you’ve lost of course and you will still grieve for them. But it sounds like to me that you have a lot of love to give.

Thinking of you and hope you are ok.

Raychel ,

Thank you. I realize it is grief talking. I can’t replace any of the babies I have lost, and I don’t want to. I miss each of them every day. I think Tito was my last baby.
