I had to surrender my Pittbull puppy Onyx on May 11th.
I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought that he would have a better life when surrendering him to someone else.
The story:
We got him when he was 11 days old. His mother rejected him I'm assuming because he was the runt. Me, my partner and two kids bottle fed him, and loved him so damn much.if we didnt take him, he would have died. We all got very attached to him.
He was very healthy. Just last month he weighed 22.5 pounds. Very happy with us and loved us so much. But so much that none could come near us. Not even my family. The vet said he was OVERLY protective of us.
For the first 2 1/2 months our vet said to keep him away from other animals and people. But that didnt do him well at all. He was afraid of the outside and of people. He was snapping and growling. Sometimes with us too. I was afraid he was going to hurt someone and then I would really have to euthanize him and I didnt want thay.
I feel like I failed him. I'm angry at myself for not doing better by him. I really thought we were going to have him forever.
When we surrendered him.... he looked so confused. Like why was his family leaving him. And now he in a foster family and they changed his name to Ace. And I'm angry because he is Onyx.
I know I made the right decision I'm just trying to figure out how to make this pain go away.

I'm sorry you are going through a hard time right now. I don't know what I can say that will help, but it sounds like you love your dog and did what you did because of that unselfish love you have for him. Hope you and your family find peace soon. ((hugs))
