Our Ruby was suffering and knew it was her time.  We had her put to sleep this morning.  It is so hard saying good-bye to one of my "kids."  She had just had her 12th birthday last month.  The vet said that is not common for Dobermans to live that long, so we must have given her a good life.  I certainly hope so.

She hadn't been well that last couple weeks, especially the last two days.  I had to coax her to go outside first thing this morning.  She didn't leave the front porch.  I went inside to get my husband and call the vet that I knew this was it.

When I returned, she wasn't there.  I walked around the side of the house and she was standing there in front of the gate where our 1-year old Dobie was standing.  It was like she was saying good-bye to her.  Then she walked over to the resting place of her daughter and granddaughter and layed down.  It was exactly the spot where we knew she would be buried one day.  We didn't realize it would be today.  It was the strangest thing.  She actually layed down and stayed there.  My husband and son had to pick her up and put her in our truck to get her to the vet.  She was tired.

The vet gave her the medicine and she simply went to sleep.  She didn't deserve to suffer at all so I knew we did the right thing.

I've lost 3 Dobies now.  They each take a piece of my heart with them when they go.  My Ruby was the sweetest dog ever.  Everyone loved her.

Please pray for her as she enters Heaven.  We know we'll see her again.  Until then, we'll miss her terribly.

Dear Dobiefamily,

Deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family for your loss of your Ruby.  Saying farewell to a beloved member of the family is so painful, but it sounds as if she knew her time to leave had come.  You will see her again.  I'll say a prayer for your Ruby, and for you and your family.

Hugs,
Katharine, Grunt's Mom Forever

I am so very sorry you had to say farewell to your beloved girl, Ruby.  I know your hearts are heavy with sorrow and she will be deeply missed.

You wrote so poignantly of her final day.  The depth of your love and devotion is so evident.  May your hearts be comforted by the knowledge that she has joined her daughter and granddaughter.  I don't think it was a coincidence that she laid there on their resting place.   It sounds like she was tired and ready to get her wings.  Now she has them.

I lit an internet candle for Ruby and your family under her name.  You can find it by going to AurichWolf's thread on this grief board entitled "Light a Candle Here".  Go to the first page of the thread and click on the little Light a Candle Icon in the first posting.  That will bring up the candle page.  It will burn for the next 48 hours.

May your grieving hearts be comforted by wonderful memories of your darling Ruby.

Hugs,
Melissa

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious Ruby.

They truly are members of the family - my cat Cheeseburger was my baby boy.

I am sure Ruby knows how much you love her.

I am having a very difficult time dealing with the loss of Cheeseburger, but I am trying to take comfort and find peace in the 10 years of beautiful cherished memories I have of Cheese.

We are all blessed to have had these wonderful souls in our lives.

Ruby is watching over you, and she will be in your heart always.

I"m so sorry for your loss.  I know exactly how you feel, because I am putting my Dusty to sleep tomorrow morning.  I'm sad because he's only 6 years old, but ill, and I don't want to put him through another painful surgery.  I feel he should still have a lot more years, so I totally understand how you felt when it happened earlier than you expected.

My prayers are with you.  It's comforting to know that there are many people here who know what we're going through and how sad we feel.

I hope your pain will ease as time goes by.
