I am struggling right now. Just deep deep sadness. Life feels so dark since my Griffen died tragically. It hurts so much that I wasn't there for him and that his last moments were with strangers. That last night he slept with me. In the morning, I gave him a big hug and told him how much I loved him and how he is my place of comfort. I didn't know that would be the last time I would hold him. That day he stayed with my husband while I drove down to see my mom about six hours away on Christmas Eve. He got out. Gate opened accidentally. He was hit by a car and died later. The person who found him took him to the vet right away. All while my husband was looking for him. He died before my husband found out where he was. He was 11 and still very healthy. One of the last wonderful memories of him was when my kids were playing with a ball and Griffen got excited grabbed the ball and deflated it. We all laughed. And just a few days later he is gone. :( I miss him. I miss how he followed me around. I miss how he always tried licking everyone's feet. He was such a gentle and sweet dog. Life is just so so dark right now not just because of Griffen but other things in my life that are falling apart. I don't know if i will ever recover from this.

Griffen sounds like he was the best boy. And for 11 years you kept him warm and safe and loved. i think dogs are the perfect beings and they understand more than we know. you loved him so much, and the hurt you're feeling proves that. I think Griffen taught you a great life lesson, look how much your heart is capable of. Griffens spirit will find you again- it might be another dog, another person.... Love like that doesn't go away. Keep your head up and I'm sorry you are feeling this way right now

I am so sorry for your pain. It sounds like you and your family really loved Griffen and he was an important part of your family. Please do not be so hard on yourself. Griffen knew he was loved and that he was a valued member of your family. Hold on to the wonderful memories and take comfort in knowing you gave him a great life.

Even though you were not there, your love was always surrounding him. He knew you love him. You will have dark days, just like we are having them. But, you will get there them. We all will get through them. Just through support.
