SO LONG

It’s been so long since I saw you,

those affectionate brown eyes filled with love.

It’s been so long since I caressed you,

your wavy fur so silky and soft.

It’s been so long since I held you,

your warm energy shared such joy and light.

It’s been so long since I heard you,

the infectious sound of your happy bark.

It’s been so long since I watched you,

running with glee for your tennis ball.

It’s been so long since you amused me,

with your silly antics and wiggling butt.

It’s been so long since you protected me,

when someone knocked or rang.

It’s been so long since we sat quietly,

your strong, silent energy keeping me calm.

There are many more “so longs” to come

and it’s very hard to do.

But I know these long days without you,

will someday come to an end

and we’ll be together for eternity.

So long as we continue to love and hold our precious babies in our hearts, and as we so long to touch them again, it won't seem so long before we will be with them again in eternity!

Sorry, Lori, I just needed to take off on your theme of "So long"!  The first thing I think of to follow "So Long" is "See you soon!"  Your poem is beautiful!

Be well, My Friend, and next time don't stay away for "so long"!  Rick

I no it's a little late after my poem, and I've put this photo up before, but I felt the need to put it here anyway. It fits with the poem. And then one more for good measure.

He looks like an angel!  The way he's hugging you brings tears to my eyes.  His eyes are so sweet and he's just all-around handsome.  Thank you for sharing the poem.  It's very clever and sincere.   Every word rings true for me too.

Lori, what precious pictures!  The cuddle in the first one is just so tender.  The eyes in the second one speak to a very intelligent soul.  No wonder your grief is so deep!  What a wonderful companion and friend he must have been to you!  My heart hurts for you.  Rick

Thank you friends, for your kind words. Yes, Piezon was my wise sage of a dog. His mere presence soothed my soul.

A little background on my pets to those who weren't here over the past 16 months. The cat in the background of the photo is Sneakers, and she died 5 months after my dog Piezon. Sneakers was 16 1/2 and Piezon was 11 1/2. Sneakers was a mean cat. Had I reached in behind me in that photo to pet her, I might've gotten a claw filled swat. You learn to leave her be after a few deep cuts and bites holes. Not that I didn't love her in my own way, you just learn to adjust to the different personalities.

We didn't mean for them to be the same color, it happened by accident. Sneakers was here for 5 years before Piezon came along (and she was even meaner when she was young). When we went looking for an Australian Shepherd puppy from breeders, I wanted a red one. Funny thing was, a black & white one wanted me. He chose me that day at the breeder's farm. I've written the story here before, as to how.

I don't mean to slight Sneakers, as I miss her in my own way, but my boy ... we were ... are conjoined hearts.

Thanks for reading,

Oh Lori,
I'm speechless.  Your poem and photos touched my heart and I got very choked up because it made me think of my Cleo.  Thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful words and precious photos of Piezon and Sneakers.  It's simply amazing to have experienced such unconditonal love from our babies.  I know how blessed I was to have Cleo and I'm equally blessed to have Tiffany and Lucy.

Lori,
That's a sweet picture of Piezon and Sneakers. Cute names, too.

I had a black/white husky, Deanna, and my Bootsie was black/white, too. Weird. And, Bootsie befriended Deanna right away. I don't know, maybe they saw their mirror image or something. Bootsie was mellow, very much so. But, Deanna was hyper. But, they loved each other--something in them made them a duo.

You lost yours so close together. Wow, that's hard. It's hard missing them so much, I know.

Take care.
