Hi everyone,
My two year old flamepoint cat Draco has been missing ten days, and I’m crippled by grief. The day he went missing the neighbor brought over his collar, and the day after that someone posted on our neighborhood Facebook page that a coyote had killed another cat on my street. It is very unlike Draco to not come home and I’m wracked with grief imagining what could have happened to him.

I raised him as an indoor only cat, but when I had to move back in with my mom she insisted he’d be happy and safe going outside occasionally with the other cats. It was against my better judgment but I relented. At first I took him on his leash, and then supervised him. Eventually we both got comfortable and he went out daily and came home throughout the day. Now that he’s gone I feel so guilty and consumed by regret. Not only that but I miss him TERRIBLY. I have barely eaten, I cry all day every day. I had to call out of work. I’m nauseous and having intrusive thoughts of what may have happened. It’s so intense I ended up seeing a psychiatrist. I guess I’m just looking for kind words and hope. My situation is different from many I’ve found online, as he wasn’t old and sick. I’m not religious, but please pray for me. I can barely function.
Thanks so much...

I am praying that your Draco comes home safe and sound and soon!  I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this.  I can't imaging how you must be feeling.......   The part of not knowing must be awful for you.  There are a lot of us here to support you.  It's good that you talked to someone.  I don't believe in keeping things bottled up, it's important to express your feelings.  Please let us know if you found your dear kitty and hold on to hope and to faith!  I will be praying for his safe return and for your hurting heart.

Take care.

Nicole,
Thank you so much for your kind words. It helps to know that even a stranger cares and is rooting for me and my kitty. It also helps to know that I am not alone in my grief, even though I’m always sorry for someone else suffering. I’m going to hold onto hope that someday I will see him again. I hope it’s soon. But if not, I hope that there is such a thing as an afterlife where souls (human or animal) can meet again.
Warmly,
Lindsey

Oh, Lindsey -- that must be heartbreaking for you. The "not knowing" would be agony. I hope your story has a happy ending.

Take care and know we all understand.

Hi everybody.
Thank you for your thoughts and kindness. I’m starting to accept that I do not believe this story will have the ending I want. It’s been very heartbreaking and exhausting, but slowly I’m processing it. I hope my love bear is safe and happy, whether in this realm or the next. Thank you again.
Warmly,
Lindsey

Avon, please do not give up hope! I lost my sweet kitty on December 24. Months went by with nothing. I lived in a coyote neighborhood as well. Lo and behold he was found 1 mile away on February 14. He came home and lived with me for many many more years. Cats go for walk abouts!! I’ve had neighbors return collars many times! 10 days is not long enough to despair. Please don’t give up hope. I certainly realize that something dreadful may have happened, but more than once my cats have been missing for more than 10 days and have eventually been found by others. Often they get spooked while outdoors or bullied out of their territory by other cats. I don’t mean to give you false hope but have you tried posting on a neighborhood next-door app? It sounds like you’ve have already posted on Facebook. I know often Facebook has special pages for finding lost pets in certain neighborhoods that all your friends can share? They are varied depending on where you live. Ours is called “friends of nitro” And is sponsored by an owner who’s pets name was Nitro and he was found after posting on Facebook then being shared like a zillion times. That site has been responsible for reuniting owners with Pets many times in the Roseville California neighborhood.Forgive me for sounding bossy, but if I can provide you more advice on how to use social media to help you search, please don’t hesitate to email me at pils4u@yahoo.com. I’m not an expert, But our social media has been very helpful out here and has added a whole new dimension to pet search. Also, I bet Your local that could give you a lot of good advice on how to post. Good luck and fingers and toes crossed For a happy ending for you

Social media is an awesome tool for finding lost pets. A dog in our area was lost on a hike in a rural area; so many people got caught up in the search for that dog -- the owners even camped where he was last seen; strangers searched for him. Three weeks later, the dog strolled into a Trader Joe's grocery store 4-5 miles away, smack in town.

Cats do indeed have many lives. We had one vanish for days. We were certain she was lost to us forever and she came home one night with grease on her fur, wreaking of cigarette smoke. We pondered what wild adventure she had been on.

Please keep hope in your heart. If your kitty used a litter box, put it outdoors (I read that tip somewhere).
