I had to surrender my dog to a friend today. I only had her 7 months but grew extremely attached, often putting her needs before my own until eventually both of our lives became unmanageable. I am in the middle of a homeless crisis. I feel like I failed. I know she will adapt more quickly to her new environment than I will and somehow that is comforting enough. Any encouraging words would be nice. I know it's not fair that I surrendered my dog, God didn't take her like many other dog guardians, but somehow that only makes me feel worse.

}{{{{{Katie}}}}}{  Loss is loss, as you said there may be some comfort in knowing you pup is in a good home, and perhaps you will be able to visit - but you still have suffered a loss. You are not the first here to have to re-home a beloved pup and we do understand your pain, and it does hurt to loose them no matter how. Share happy memories of you baby here, cry on our shoulders, and know you are not alone.

Zia, that was an amazingly brave and loving choice you made. You wanted your dog to have a good home and did what a caring parent would do. I hope that knowing you put her in a good home will give you some peace. And as she’s at your friend’s, you should be able to visit, for sure. Hugs

It must have been a hard choice that you gave a lot of thought to -- I commend you for that. Take comfort in knowing you'd did the best thing for your beloved pooch; hopefully your friend will give you happy updates and you can see your dog on occasion. I'm sure you miss her -- loss is loss. Take one day at a time; be good to yourself.

Zia,
I am so sorry your were forced into such a dire decision. But us pet parents understand you did what was best for your baby. I am sorry though.
