It has been months since I lost you, but tonight I still moved my legs over to make room for you to sleep, as I did every night when you were alive. I still get sad when I think of you, but I try to not cry. But tonight a pile of my clothing on my bed piled together in a form that looked just like you. I think I still get so sad because I never got to say goodbye. You always got so sad when I went away to college, and always so excited when I returned home. But I never returned home before you passed, and I fear you think I abandoned you. My mom said she mentioned my name as they put you to asleep and you perked up a bit, I hope that’s true. Most of all, I hope you know that I love you, and I’ll move my legs over so you have a place to rest.

What nice words to share with Abby. I am sure she appreciates hearing from you. I felt "severely" guilty about Pearl's death and suffered for an extremely long time because of the way things went down. (It became a form of torture of sorts. Reliving and remembering how she died.) My personal point of view is I do believe Abby heard you and feels great that you reached out. If that is true, then surely she is thrilled you are keeping her old spot on the bed open for her.

Thank you so much, it’s hard when you feel like you abandoned a pet, but hearing that others think they hear you makes it better
