Just thought I would share some photos and one of my favorite poems since I lost my BabyBlue.

The Grandest Foal

I'll lend you for a little while,
My grandest foal, God said.
For you to love while he's alive,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be one or twenty years,
Or days or months, you see.
But will you, til I take him back,
Take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have those treasured memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.

I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
With trust, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love?
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come
To take him back again?

I know you'll give him tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known,
You will forever-grateful stay.
But should I come and call for him
Much sooner than you'd planned.
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And maybe understand.

This last photo was taken 5 days before he died!

Blues Story,

Well if animals can be our soul mates he was definately mine.  I was completely inlove.  I went to look at a stallion to breed my other mare too and there was this little face,  I knew I had to have him.  However he was already spoken for.  Luckily for me the person had been mia for a while so the breeder gave them set amount of days to speak up for him or he would be re listed.  Lucky for me they never did call back, and a week later I went and put a deposit down on him.  He finally got to his new home when he was about 4 months old.  I did everything with him.  We went for long walks in the back acres of the property.  He then graduated to being ponied by my mare.  We would run thru fields and he could keep up.  He was absolutely  amazing.  At 18 months he lunged, you could saddle him, do all four feet.  He was even in a schooling show and took 2nd place in a lunge line class.  SO this is the crappy part.  I got home from work one day and my barn owner calls me.  She never calls unless something is wrong.  SO I picked up the phone and with a laugh said who is it... and she went quiet and said "the one you love more than your husband"  I knew it was bad by the tone of her voice.  SHe told me he had somehow done something to his back leg.  I needed to come and the vet should be called.  SO off I go.  My mom drove me as we thought it could be bad.  The barn is 45 min from my house so half way there I call to see if the vet has made it there.  She has and it's not good.  Blue had broken his Tibia... and on a horse that is to high of a break to fix.  So I chicken out and in tears say ok.. do what you need to do.  I was devastated.  I made my mom turn around and take me home.  I couldn't say good bye to my baby boy.  And thats our story.  I have a slide show set to his pictures with Garth Brookes song the dance playing in the background.  When I was told he needed to be put down the first thing that popped in my head were those lyrics.  "I could have missed the pain, But I'd had to miss the dance!"

His is such a beautiful Baby Blue.  i don't think that I've ever seen a colt with eyes so beautiful.  It is so obvious why you fell in love.  I'm so very sorry for your loss and at such a very young age.  Huge hugs, golda's mom
